The Story Behind a Cozy Interior
A Noteworthy Project: Merikalju Private Apartments, Tallinn
One of the highlight projects from late 2020 to early 2021 was a set of private apartments located in the Merikalju area of Tallinn.
On the ground floor, our team created a cozy and modern interior based on a design by Yana Dymskaya. The client was actively involved in the selection of materials and color palette, contributing greatly to the creative process.
We’re proud to present the result of this collaborative effort — a project that left both the client and our team completely satisfied. Several of the custom furniture solutions developed here have since become part of our signature collection and are now on display in our showroom at Pärnu mnt 33, Tallinn.
Kitchen
Kitchen Design — Merikalju Project
The layout of this apartment allowed us to position an L-shaped kitchen discreetly, making it barely visible from the living area — a rare and elegant solution in modern residential buildings. However, subtle placement does not mean the kitchen should go unnoticed.
For this project, we introduced a new custom milling pattern based on MDF — a semi-circular vertical texture that was used on the upper wall cabinet fronts. The cabinet doors open from the bottom without handles, maintaining a clean and minimalist look.
The lower cabinets and tall units with integrated appliances feature polished, handle-free fronts with recessed finger pulls. All visible surfaces — cabinet fronts and side panels — were painted in a custom-matched color, selected in collaboration with the client.
The kitchen’s perimeter is framed with 30×30 mm aluminum profile, powder-coated in a copper tone. All external corners were mitered at 45 degrees and installed with invisible joints, ensuring a seamless, high-end finish.
The countertop and backsplash are made of 30 mm black polished granite, adding depth and sophistication. Kitchen appliances were supplied by Küppersbusch.
Additional details worth noting:
Recessed LED lighting installed under the upper cabinets, controlled via touch sensor or remote — based on client preference
Anti-slip rubber mats inside all drawers
Blum soft-close systems used throughout — a quality standard we apply in all our projects by default
Elegant wall panel texture
Vertical Paneling as a Focal Design Element
The layout of the floor features an elongated shape, and the designer’s decision to decorate the longitudinal wall with vertically milled panels — accented with copper inserts continuing the kitchen’s design language — brought a striking visual rhythm to the space, making the interior look impressive from every angle.
The wall panels were custom-designed to include precise milling for light switch plates and ventilation grilles. Existing door casings were dismantled and replaced with seamlessly integrated wall panels, creating a unified surface.
We pay close attention to detail — even the white ventilation grilles were repainted to match the color of the panels. The door handle was also replaced with a new copper-toned one, complementing the overall palette.
Above the door, we installed a smooth painted panel in the door color, without milling, which emphasized the geometry of the space and contrasted beautifully with the texture of the adjacent grooved panels.
In this way, a simple painted wall was transformed into a decorative statement, becoming a key part of the interior’s identity.
Living area
Living Area: Continuation of the Project
The living area continues the visual narrative of the project, featuring wall panels with a similar milling style as in the kitchen — but with a more complex geometric composition. Here, square-shaped panels are milled in alternating directions, creating a dynamic and multidimensional surface.
These panels are complemented by a copper-painted composition made of vertically aligned aluminum profiles with backlighting, which enhances the depth and sculptural effect of the entire wall structure.
A large television screen is mounted within a custom niche, with the bracket recessed into the wall so that the screen sits as close to the surface as possible — almost flush. Below the TV, there is a floating sideboard featuring both swing and flip-down doors.
The sideboard is made from premium panels finished with UV lacquer, providing excellent resistance to scratches, heat, moisture, sunlight, chemicals, and wear. The exterior finish mimics gilded bronze, adding a luxurious touch. The back panel and base are made from a complementary material with a matte copper effect.
Custom-designed copper handles in a modern shape were specially produced for this project. The flip-down door mechanism is cleverly concealed with cable supports embedded into the side walls of the unit. Integrated cable channels allow seamless connection between the television and other audio-visual equipment in the room.
The sofa in the living area is also a custom-made piece by our team. All of the client’s preferences — including size, firmness, comfort level, and color — were carefully considered and implemented.
While the photo may not fully convey just how comfortable it is, visually the sofa certainly captures attention — wouldn’t you agree?
Our designer is currently working on coffee table options to complement the seating area — a story we’ll share soon. The design and construction of this feature have inspired not only the client but also our entire production team. We’re all excited to see the final result.
Entrance Hallway
A Thoughtful Entrance: Where Details Matter
The entryway may be a small space, but in this project, it certainly deserves its own spotlight. Despite its size, it’s packed with thoughtful details and clever design solutions that turn everyday challenges into aesthetic features.
As anyone familiar with modern residential buildings knows, technical cabinets and access panels in hallways are often unavoidable. This project was no exception — but instead of treating them as a limitation, we saw them as an opportunity to showcase precision craftsmanship and decorative milling at its finest.
All cutouts around the utility boxes were executed with maximum accuracy, and the panel pattern was designed to frame each opening with a subtle, elegant border motif. The thickness of the wall panels was used strategically to visually minimize the depth of the boxes, giving them a cleaner, more integrated look.
Pay special attention to the recessed niche in the hallway, which houses a few wall-mounted utility boxes. The entire niche is finished with our custom wall panels, seamlessly incorporating function into form. According to the client, every guest notices this detail — and it always makes an impression.
Inside the niche, we installed a custom bench designed and built by our team. It features a tufted black eco-leather cushion and a frame made from copper-toned aluminum profile. A practical shoe rack is integrated beneath the seat.
